Social networking bug bitting hard into profitibility...

Social networkin,online avatars,online profiles and identities have taken on a drug like obsession for a large chunk on the Indian workforce.

Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry[Assocham] revealed this flocking trend in a recent survey indicating how the social networking bug has made its way to the office space and is eating into productivity in the workspace.

Here are a few highlights from the survey which was conducted in 13 major cities-Mumbai,Ahmedabad,Delhi,Chennai with 4000-participants in the age bracket of 21-60



  • The Indian employee spends and hour on a n average on social networking sites like Facebook,Orkut...
  • Productivity suffered is close to 12.5%
  • 4 in every 10 employee builds their social network profiles during office hours on sites like Facebook,Orkut,Linked in,Twitter...
  • A whopping 83% saw nothing wrong in social networking during office hours
  • Another staggering statisitc 84% of the respondents showed signs of internet addiction
  • Only 14% of the employees were given full access to social networking sites,this just goes to show employees are using smarter means to beat the system.
