Physical existence v/s virtual existence

Just a random thought... Technology was built to shrink distances to bring us closer. Second life avatars, chat rooms,g talk... Do these virtual communication devices actually encourage us to live a virtual life or are they pushing us towards seeking face-to-face interactions through the use of these devices

The classic example would be
dating sites...I can now connect with like minded individuals but what i am really looking for is the face-to-face meeting with the person. Similarly posting on blogs and having random visitors post on your blog who share their views has a thrill of its own but the real buzz factor lies in the possibility that someday i might just be able to transform this virtual connection into a real one.

Google earth
as well as other cafes and restaurants that have online communities have in a way bridged the game between strangers in a particular locality. When add a CCD Khar community to my orkut community listing i am in fact hoping that i will make a virtual connection with someone who also frequently the same place that could maybe translate into an actual physical meeting someday.

The internet in my opinion has somewhere become the 1st screen filter when it come to the kind of friends/acquaintances we hope to have in our lives

i feel the whole social networking bit.. at one end even though people really use it for sorts of random time pass..on the other end has really kind of brought people together.. for me the reason why i still hang on to these websites is because i can on a daily basis keep in touch with all my friends..
secondly wat an orkut did for me.. i couldnt have imagined few years back.. i have actually gotten in touch with friends from nursery who i wasnt in touch with for over 10 yrs and stuff ..since i'v had quiet a nomad life in terms of atleast schooling.. changed 5 schools and even cities.. it kinda a heavenly boon to my life.. just brought that amazing excitement to get in touch with the best of my past..

I also do feel that somehow technology.. be it virtual or mobile.. has made us more reluctant about the face to face meetings with close friends.. we have become easy and comfy in our own worlds and since these enable us to have a quick chat with our dear ones we seldom bother to have a get together of sorts and ofcourse wen it does happen.. it happens in centuries literally.. maybe its also making our more reclusive .. self obsessed.. and nuclear in our thinking and existence.. the whole idea of having a happy social life seems to get limited to the virtual world which is actually nothing but mere unreal existence and a fantasy world.. :-)

Tanaya,
Your point about how technology has in a way made us more elusive is a valid one i guess it swings both ways there are those who look at the internet as a way to transform virtual relations into real one and there are those that use it to avert the real physical encounter. And for most of the bit i think these facets co-exist amongst every individual depending on their frame of mind and the kind of relations they are in or hope to be in.

Thanks for the comment, got me to re-think what i posted!

Can anyone recommend the best RMM system for a small IT service company like mine? Does anyone use Kaseya.com or GFI.com? How do they compare to these guys I found recently: N-able N-central service desk
? What is your best take in cost vs performance among those three? I need a good advice please... Thanks in advance!
